Description

Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) is typically used in cell culture media as a buffer. In addition to its buffering capacity, it provides nutritional value in the culturing of mammalian cells.

  • 7.5% w/v in water
  • Endotoxin and Mycoplasma Tested

Synonyms: Sodium hydrogen carbonate, carbonic acid sodium salt (1:1), carbonic acid monosodium salt, sodium carbonate (1:1), sodium bicarbonate

Linear formula: NaHCO3
CAS No.: 144-55-8

Applications

Although NaHCO3 does not have the buffering capacity of HEPES, it is occasionally preferred over HEPES because of its lower toxicity and nutritional value to cells in culture. Sodium Bicarbonate, 7.5% is useful as a buffer for culturing a broad spectrum of mammalian cells.

Recommendation

Dilute Sodium Bicarbonate in appropriate cell culture media, to a final concentration of  5-15 mM
