Applications
E. coli will thrive in this medium because of the additional amino acids, nucleotide precursors, vitamins, and other essential metabolites the bacteria can utilize to replicate. The presence of sodium chloride in the medium provides a suitable osmotic environment for growth and replication of bacteria.
YT medium 2X is suitable for non-selective cultivation of M13 bacteriophage and E. coli strains for cloning, DNA plasmid production and production of recombinant proteins, and selective cultivation when appropriate antibiotics are added.
YT Medium 2X components such as tryptone and yeast extracts are found in large quantities within this medium; these components will provide the necessary nitrogen and growth factors that the bacteriophage need to replicate more rapidly and efficiently without depleting the host cells of these critical nutrients.
